NDT-Agile: An Agile, CMMI-Compatible Framework for Web Engineering

Agile and Web Engineering show important synergies, making Agile a common approach for Web development. Besides, several initiatives emerged to support CMMI-DEV within Agile, where CMMI-DEV aims to improve organizations’ software development process. An approach integrating Agile, Web and CMMI-DEV might be of great value, since they might allow Web development teams to use Agile, as well as progress through CMMI-DEV maturity levels. For this purpose, we developed NDT-Agile, an NDT-based Agile framework to achieve the goals of CMMI-DEV in the context of Web Engineering. It was developed by mapping Agile practices to the goals of CMMI-DEV so as to identify existing gaps. Next, we searched for suitable Agile practices to cover the gaps and integrated them into a framework called NDTAgile, which was validated using an expert-judgment technique: the Delphi method. This paper describes how we integrated Agile and CMMI-DEV into a Web Engineering framework. Besides, it also analyzes its initial evaluation, together with a first tool developed to support it.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2013-46928-C3-3-RMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2016-76956-C3-2-RMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2015-71938-RED

    Designing Localized Web Sites

Abstract. The term World Wide Web (WWW) emphasizes that the Web is global and many companies realize that this creates new opportunities. A considerable amount of literature on web site development stresses that, in order to attract and retain more customers, it is vital to create different versions of a web site and adapt those versions to the local communities they target. This process is usually called globalization and the different web site versions are called localized web sites. Although content management systems (CMS) for web sites provide support for multinational web sites, current web site design methodologies do not consider the issue of globalization. In general, the globalization effort is done after the web site is designed and implemented. This makes globalization much harder. In this paper, we show how to extend an existing web site design method, WSDM, to support the design of localized web sites.

Exploiting Link Types during the Conceptual Design of Web Sites

Abstract. With recent developments in World Wide Web technology, expressiveness of web sites and web applications is starting to converge to the functionality offered by Open Hypermedia Systems. In this paper, we examine how link typing, and an appropriate link definition can be used during the web site design process. Different existing approaches to link categorization are reviewed before going into closer detail to the concept of link and its properties. Next, four different types of links are defined, with a description of how each of them can be exploited to enhance the design process as well as the usability of the web site. Explicitly modeling the links as belonging to one of these four categories during the design phase allows to separate concerns during the modeling process; provide for clearer design guidelines; allows for better usability, multiple customized presentations, and other automatically generated enhancements to web sites (e.g. site map, in-page navigation structures, …). The approach is presented in the context of WSDM, an audience driven web site design method, but the principles are generally applicable
